St Arnaud

After a very long stretch in the bush we walked into the small settlement of St Arnaud and straight into the Dairy (small shop) to buy food!!

We were spotted by Dave another Te Araroa tramper who we had met a couple of weeks previously.  He is an ultralite tramper and his whole pack including tent, sleeping bag, clothes, cooker etc weighs just 7lbs!!!  Dave recommended a place for us to stay and we joined him for dinner in the only place to eat in the village and I ate vast quantities of food. Later the three of us soaked in the hot tub and boy did it feel good!

We had a late start the following day as we needed to re-charge batteries, buy food for the next section and catch up with emails.
